Hyderabad,March,23,2026 : The Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a “Siege Assembly” protest on Monday, demanding the state government fulfil its election promises. The party accused the ruling Congress of failing to implement key commitments made before the assembly elections.

The BJP staged the protest in Hyderabad, calling on the government to release pending student fee reimbursements. Party leaders highlighted that more than 2.5 years have passed since the Congress government came to power, yet nearly ₹12,000 crore in fee reimbursements remain unpaid.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA KP Vivekanand Goud criticised the delay, saying students from SC, ST, BC, and minority communities are unable to obtain their certificates after completing their degrees. He told ANI, “The government has promised to fulfil the fee reimbursement of the students. But it’s been 2.5 years, and nearly ₹12,000 crore of fee reimbursements are pending. We demand that the government release all pending fees immediately.”

BRS leader Palla Rajeshwar Reddy noted that the scheme benefits 10-12 lakh students annually. He added that the delay is affecting students, faculty, and college operations. “For the last 2.5 years, the Congress government could not pay a single rupee. Faculty are not receiving salaries, and management is facing financial difficulties. The government must release the fee reimbursement immediately,” Reddy said.

BRS MLC Madhusudhana Chary also stressed that students’ futures are at stake. Speaking to ANI, he said, “Students are very tense. The government must fulfil the promise given and clear the pending fee reimbursements.” The protest reflects growing concern among opposition parties over the delay in implementing welfare schemes in Telangana.

The BJP and BRS leaders demanded that the state government take immediate action to release pending fees. The protest is part of ongoing pressure from opposition parties to ensure timely implementation of student welfare programs and other election promises.

Background: The student fee reimbursement scheme in Telangana was initially introduced by the Congress government and later expanded to include more sections of society under Chief Minister KCR. The scheme provides financial support to SC, ST, BC, and minority students annually.

Next Steps: Opposition parties continue to urge the government to act promptly on pending reimbursements to prevent further disruption in students’ education and college operations.
