Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that safeguarding the interests of students and preserving public confidence in India’s education system were the primary reasons behind his decision. The resignation comes after days of nationwide protests linked to the ongoing examination controversy.
In his resignation letter, Pradhan said he has unwavering faith in India’s democracy and expressed deep respect for the aspirations of the country’s youth. He described young people as not only the nation’s future but also the architects of a developed India.
Referring to developments over the past several days, Pradhan wrote that the issue was never about his personal reputation but about protecting students from uncertainty and ensuring that their academic future is not affected. He said no student should become entangled in prolonged legal disputes and urged students to remain focused on their education and career goals.
Pradhan also stated that misinformation and attempts by anti-national elements to exploit the prevailing situation should not be allowed to undermine national unity. He said the circumstances at Jantar Mantar and other protest locations across the country should not be misused for purposes that could harm the nation’s interests.
“The youth of India are the nation’s real strength,” Pradhan said in the letter, adding that he has always believed in their dreams and ambitions. He emphasized that his resignation was submitted after considering all relevant factors and with the objective of protecting students’ interests.
The outgoing minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his guidance, trust and continued support during his tenure. He also expressed gratitude to his Cabinet colleagues, officials of the Ministry of Education and all those who worked with him.
Pradhan concluded his letter by reaffirming that serving the nation remains the highest priority of his life. Invoking the blessings of Lord Jagannath, he said he would continue contributing to the aspirations of India’s youth, the people of Odisha and the nation in the future as well.
The resignation follows sustained protests over examination-related issues and marks a significant political development. The Union government is expected to announce further decisions regarding the Education Ministry in due course.
