Hyderabad.02.12.2025:  The Telangana government has announced a holiday for Shab-e-Meraj, observed on the 27th day of the Islamic month of Rajab. Though this significant occasion is marked as an optional holiday in the state’s official calendar, its date may shift depending on the crescent moon’s sighting.

What is Shab-e-Meraj?

Shab-e-Meraj, also known as the “Night of Ascension,” holds immense religious significance for Muslims worldwide. This holy night commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s miraculous journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and his subsequent ascension to the heavens. During this spiritual journey, the Prophet met other prophets and received guidance from Allah, which Muslims reflect upon with prayers and special gatherings.

Optional Holiday for Shab-e-Meraj

  • Date Listed: January 28, 2025
  • Note: If the crescent moon is not sighted on the expected date, the holiday may shift to January 29, 2025.
  • Minority educational institutions are expected to remain closed the day after Shab-e-Meraj.

Telangana’s January Holiday Schedule

The state has outlined six holidays in January 2025, including four general holidays and two optional ones:
