Hyderabad, 24.04.2025: In a major development near the Chhattisgarh–Telangana border, 14 members of the banned CPI Maoist group, including two senior leaders, surrendered to the police in Warangal district on Thursday. They handed themselves over to Inspector General Chandrasekhar Reddy as security forces continue intense operations in the region.

Reports said six Maoists were killed recently in clashes with paramilitary forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, close to Telangana’s Mulugu area. IG Reddy welcomed the move, calling it part of the government’s effort to encourage Maoists to leave violence behind and rejoin society. He confirmed that each person who surrendered received Rs 25,000 as immediate assistance.
With this, the total number of Maoists who surrendered in Telangana this year has reached 250. Just two weeks ago, 22 insurgents gave up their weapons in Mulugu, where local authorities are offering Rs 4 lakh for area committee leaders, Rs 1 lakh for regular members, and Rs 25,000 for militia members as part of a rehabilitation package. Earlier this month, 86 others surrendered in Bhadradri Kothagudem, following 64 in March.
Police said the Maoist ideology is losing support in the region and urged those still in hiding to leave violence and start a peaceful life. The government is offering various rehabilitation benefits like vocational training, job support, and financial aid to help them settle back into normal life.
