48-Hour Silence Period Municipal Elections Begin

District Election Officer and Collector Koya Sri Harsha announced that the 48-hour silence period municipal elections guidelines must be strictly followed until the completion of polling.

As per Election Commission rules, the silence period starts 48 hours before polling ends. Since voting will conclude at 5 PM on February 11, the restrictions came into effect from 5 PM on February 9.

The directive applies to all urban local bodies in the district, including Peddapalli, Manthani, Sultanabad municipalities, and the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation.

Campaigning Completely Prohibited

Officials clarified that no form of election campaigning will be allowed during the silence period. Political rallies, public meetings, and speeches are strictly banned.

Displaying election-related videos, songs, promotional content, or advertisements in public or private spaces is also not permitted.

Leaders, candidates, and their supporters have been instructed not to engage in any political activity that could influence voters.

Media Restrictions in Force

The Election Commission has also imposed limitations on media platforms. Newspapers, television channels, digital media, and other communication channels are prohibited from broadcasting or publishing content that could impact voters’ decisions.

Authorities stated that sharing or revealing any form of election results, trends, or opinion-based information before the official announcement is strictly forbidden.

Such measures are aimed at ensuring that voters make independent decisions without external pressure or influence.

Outsiders Asked to Leave Campaign Areas

As part of the 48-hour silence period municipal elections enforcement, political workers and supporters who came from outside areas for campaigning have been directed to leave and return to their respective places.

Only local residents are allowed to remain in the municipalities during this period to prevent unauthorized campaigning or undue influence.

Officials will conduct monitoring and inspections to ensure compliance with these instructions.

Bulk Political Messaging Banned

The administration has specifically banned bulk messaging services related to election campaigning. Sending mass SMS, WhatsApp forwards, automated calls, or digital promotions with political content is prohibited.

Authorities said this step is necessary to prevent last-minute voter manipulation through mobile and online platforms.

Cyber monitoring teams have also been deployed to track violations.

Strict Legal Action Against Violators

Collector Koya Sri Harsha made it clear that any violation of the 48-hour silence period municipal elections rules will attract immediate legal consequences.

Cases will be registered against individuals, political parties, or organizations found breaking the guidelines.

Law enforcement and election monitoring teams are on high alert to ensure that the silence period is maintained peacefully and effectively.

The district administration urged all political stakeholders and citizens to cooperate with authorities and respect the democratic process.

Why the Silence Period Matters

The silence period is a crucial measure introduced by the Election Commission to protect the integrity of elections. It provides voters with a calm environment to reflect and cast their votes without pressure or influence.

By restricting campaigning and promotional activities, authorities aim to create equal opportunities for all candidates and ensure transparent polling.

Officials emphasized that public cooperation is essential for conducting smooth and fair municipal elections across the district.

Conclusion

With the 48-hour silence period municipal elections now in effect, the district administration has tightened surveillance and enforcement measures across all municipalities.

Residents, political leaders, and media organizations have been urged to strictly follow the rules. Authorities reiterated that maintaining discipline during this period will help uphold democratic values and ensure peaceful polling.
