Telangana Government Departments Directed to Purchase Only Electric Vehicles

Hyderabad, March,12,2026: The Telangana government has directed all departments to purchase only electric vehicles as part of efforts to promote clean transport. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy issued the instructions during a review meeting on transport department activities.

The move aims to strengthen the adoption of electric vehicles across government departments and reduce pollution from conventional fuel-based transport.

During the review, the Chief Minister instructed officials that government departments must procure only electric vehicles for official use. He also said that vehicles hired on rent by government departments within the core urban area should also be electric vehicles.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need to work towards a pollution-free transportation system. He directed the transport department to move away from manual procedures and ensure that all departmental operations are conducted online.

The review meeting was attended by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and senior officials of the transport department. The meeting focused on improving administrative efficiency and strengthening infrastructure within the department.

During the discussion, the Chief Minister also instructed officials that Regional Transport Office buildings should not continue operating from rented premises. He asked the department to immediately prepare plans for constructing permanent buildings for RTO offices.

In addition, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of public awareness about road safety. He directed officials to promote awareness on road accidents and display short films to educate the public.

The government also discussed plans for transport infrastructure near the upcoming high speed rail corridor. The Chief Minister said land would be allocated for the construction of a modern bus terminal near Shamshabad, close to the proposed high speed rail corridor starting point. Officials were asked to prepare the necessary plans for the project.

The review focused on strengthening the transport department through digital governance, improved infrastructure and the adoption of electric vehicles in government operations.
