Born on August 18, 1959, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to Savitri and Narayanan Sitharaman, she hails from a Tamil Iyengar family. Sitharaman’s political career began when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2008. She swiftly rose through the ranks and served as the party’s national spokesperson until 2014.
