Hyderabad, March,18,2026: A heated discussion took place in the Telangana Assembly on Wednesday over the Musi River Project. The debate mainly focused on the project’s cost and implementation, with opposition leaders questioning the government.
During the discussion on the Musi River Project, Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K T Rama Rao raised several objections and questioned the government’s approach. The debate between ruling party members and opposition leaders led to strong exchanges inside the Assembly.
K T Rama Rao said the government should place the Detailed Project Report before the Assembly. In response, Minister Sridhar Babu addressed the issue, but the explanation did not satisfy the opposition members.
According to K T Rama Rao, the opposition strongly opposed what he described as a massive financial irregularity in the project. He said their party decided to walk out of the Assembly in protest.
He stated that the government had not clearly presented the Detailed Project Report and had not provided clear information about the number of houses that could be affected by the project. He also said the Managing Director of the Musi River Development Corporation had reportedly stated that there was no Detailed Project Report available.
K T Rama Rao said the government should hold presentations with the affected residents rather than conducting presentations in luxury hotels. He added that the BRS leaders chose not to attend the government’s presentation for this reason.
He also alleged that the Congress party was responsible for the current condition of the Musi River. He demanded that the government immediately present the Detailed Project Report if it exists.
According to him, the government had announced a 50 meter buffer zone along the river but notices were issued even to residents living several kilometers away. He claimed that while authorities initially mentioned demolition of around 1400 houses, notices were later issued to more than 10000 houses.
K T Rama Rao also referred to demolitions of houses belonging to poor families in Velugumatla village in Khammam district. He questioned why Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka was reportedly unaware of developments in his own district.
The Musi River Project aims to address issues related to the river and its surrounding areas. However, questions about the project’s cost and planning led to sharp exchanges in the Assembly.
The debate concluded with BRS members walking out of the Assembly in protest against the government’s handling of the issue.
