New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu to accelerate work on the proposed Adilabad and Mamnoor airports in the state. The Chief Minister said the land acquisition required for the Mamnoor airport project has been completed and sought early progress on the remaining works.

Revanth Reddy met Ram Mohan Naidu at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry’s office in New Delhi, on September 2. During the meeting, he requested the Centre to develop the Adilabad airport with passenger and cargo terminals as well as Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities.

The Chief Minister also sought a joint meeting involving the Defence Ministry and the Civil Aviation Ministry to finalise the runway requirements for the proposed Adilabad airport. The state government has been pursuing the development of a civil airport alongside the proposed defence aviation facilities in Adilabad.

For Mamnoor airport near Warangal, the Union Minister said tenders would be invited within two weeks and finalised by December, according to the Telangana government. He also indicated that the foundation stone for the works would be laid in December.

The two sides also discussed the potential for developing heli-tourism in Telangana. Revanth Reddy requested the Centre to support helicopter-based tourism initiatives, which the state government believes could strengthen connectivity to tourist destinations.

Officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry told the Chief Minister that a report on the proposed seaplane landing facility at Hussain Sagar would be submitted to the Telangana government within two weeks.

The meeting was attended by MPs Anil Kumar Yadav and Suresh Shetkar, State Government Advisor (Protocol) Harkara Venugopal Rao, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, CM Secretary Manik Raj and other officials.

The latest discussions build on earlier efforts by the Telangana government to develop Mamnoor and Adilabad airports with passenger, cargo and MRO facilities. In July, the state government had also sought international-standard infrastructure and early commencement of the Mamnoor project.
