Hyderabad,March,21,2026: The Telangana government will soon introduce the Civil Registration System portal to simplify birth and death certificate registrations. The system is expected to provide faster online services with certificates issued within three to five days.
The Civil Registration System portal will allow citizens to apply for birth and death certificates online, reducing manual processes and delays. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort by the Central government, making it mandatory for all states to adopt a unified digital system.
Currently, birth and death certificates in Greater Hyderabad are issued by GHMC, while the Secunderabad Cantonment Board handles registrations in its jurisdiction. Officials said different systems across states had led to inconsistencies and misuse.
An official from the Cantonment Board said that thousands of illegal certificates were generated earlier to obtain government benefits. GHMC had also identified around 26000 fake certificates recently and recommended action against those responsible.
Under the new system, applicants can receive certificates within three days, and at most five days, through Mee Seva centres by paying a fee of Rs 30 per document. The process is expected to improve transparency and reduce fraud.
To apply, users need to register on the portal, enter details such as name, mobile number, and event information, and upload required documents. After verification by the local registrar, certificates can be downloaded directly from the portal.
Birth certificates are essential for school admissions, passports, voter ID cards, Aadhaar, driving licences, and other official purposes. Death certificates are required for property transfer, insurance claims, and pension benefits.
The new portal is expected to streamline certificate services across Telangana and ensure faster processing once fully implemented.
