Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that four major government hospitals in the state will be completed and made available to the public in phases over the next 18 months. The Osmania General Hospital, TIMS facilities at Alwal and LB Nagar, and the Warangal Super Specialty Hospital are expected to be completed at intervals of about six months, according to the Chief Minister.
Revanth Reddy made the announcement while inaugurating the Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (DrMCRTIMS) at Sanathnagar in Hyderabad. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and other public representatives attended the programme.
Four hospitals to expand public healthcare capacity
The Chief Minister said the government was giving priority to completing major healthcare infrastructure projects across Telangana. Once the proposed hospitals are operational, they are expected to significantly expand access to tertiary and super-specialty healthcare for people, particularly those from economically weaker sections.
Revanth Reddy said the government intends to develop these hospitals to standards comparable with corporate healthcare facilities. He also directed officials to prepare a special action plan for their administration and functioning.
According to the Chief Minister, each hospital will have a dedicated director responsible for its administration and development. He said facilities such as free food for patients, accommodation and dormitories for attendants should also be provided. The government also plans to consider super-PG and nursing college facilities at these institutions.
Focus on affordable treatment
The Chief Minister said healthcare and education were being treated as long-term investments rather than merely government expenditure or welfare measures. He stressed the need to provide quality medical treatment to people without forcing poor families to sell assets to meet healthcare expenses.
He also highlighted the importance of specialised treatment, particularly cardiac care, kidney treatment and organ transplantation. The Sanathnagar institute is expected to strengthen Telanganaโs public healthcare infrastructure in these areas.
Osmania Hospital redevelopment
Revanth Reddy said the government was also progressing with the construction of a new multi-super-specialty hospital at Goshamahal near Osmania General Hospital. The project is being developed on about 30 acres with an estimated cost of Rs 2,700 crore.
The Chief Minister further said the government had undertaken large-scale recruitment in the health sector and directed officials to explore incentives for government doctors who provide additional services and perform surgeries. The broader objective, he said, is to strengthen public healthcare and provide people with confidence in government hospitals.
