Hyderabad.14.01.2025: The Telangana government is gearing up for upcoming local body elections by conducting a comprehensive study on the state’s population demographics. The study revealed that the backward classes make up an estimated 55-57% of Telangana’s population, surpassing the previously reported figure of about 52%.
Key Findings of the Survey
A recent survey, conducted by the Congress party in Telangana, aimed to provide a clearer understanding of the population distribution. According to the survey, about 10% of households in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area were not included, accounting for approximately 3.2 lakh out of the total 29 lakh households. Statewide, Telangana has around 1.25 crore households, with the survey indicating a notable disparity between urban and rural participation.
Government’s Response and Next Steps
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, alongside his deputy Bhatti Vikramarka, is expected to review these findings to ensure accurate representation across all communities. The government is committed to using this data to refine its reservation policies and enhance political and job representation for historically underrepresented groups.
