Telangana to Aid Flood Victims Without Waiting for Central Support

SURYAPET.16.09.2024: Telangana‘s Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the state government will take immediate action to assist flood victims without waiting for help from the central government.

On Sunday, the minister visited the Nagarjunasagar canals to review the repair work. He also checked the repair progress at the Redlakunta major canal in Nadigudem mandal, Karakkayalagudem, and Arlagudem in Kodad mandal, as well as the Muktyala branch canal.

Speaking to the media, Uttam Kumar Reddy praised the Telangana government for its quick response to the recent floods. He highlighted that Telangana had suffered significant damage, with losses amounting to Rs 10,300 crore.

The minister noted that the government is speeding up repairs to damaged canals and ponds. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with other officials, have acted swiftly to address the damage and prevent further issues.

Uttam Kumar Reddy reported that damage from the floods affected 773 locations across the state. He assured that the Nagarjunasagar left canal would be repaired within a week, with similar timelines for other major repair works. Repair efforts are already underway, with Rs 3.4 crore allocated for the Nagarjunasagar canal and Rs 15 crore for several ponds.

The minister confirmed that work on the Choutapally, Buruggadda, Mamilla, Narayanapuram, and Nagula ponds is in progress.
