Hyderabad,March,23,2026: The Telangana Driver Education Course will be introduced for all new driving licence applicants in the state. The online course will consist of six modules with a total duration of three hours and must be completed before obtaining a driving licence.

According to transport authorities, the course will cover road safety topics such as right of way, lane discipline, safe following distance, road signs, lane markings and defensive driving. The program will be conducted online and includes biometric verification to ensure only the applicant completes the course.

Officials said the initiative aims to improve awareness of traffic rules among new drivers and reduce accidents caused by lack of road safety knowledge. The biometric system is expected to prevent misuse such as auto play or proxy attendance during the online training.

However, the announcement has also triggered public discussion on social media about whether a three hour online course can significantly improve driving behaviour and road discipline.

Some people commented that many years of formal education have not fully developed civic sense among citizens, and therefore a short online course alone may not be enough to change driving habits unless strict testing, enforcement and penalties are implemented along with the training.

Others supported the decision, saying structured driver education before issuing licences is necessary and could help new drivers understand road rules better if implemented properly.

The Telangana Driver Education Course is expected to become part of the driving licence process for new applicants once the transport department officially implements the system.
