New York, April 02,2026: Hyundai Boulder concept has been unveiled as the company’s first hard core off roader, previewing a future production model expected before the end of the decade. The concept was revealed at the New York International Auto Show as part of Hyundai’s expansion into rugged SUV and body on frame vehicle segments.
The Hyundai Boulder concept represents a major shift for the company, which has traditionally focused on monocoque SUVs. This new concept showcases a body on frame platform designed for serious off road capability and future utility vehicles.
The Boulder features a boxy and upright design that emphasizes durability and off road performance. The SUV includes vertically stacked LED lighting, large off road tyres, high ground clearance, and short overhangs designed for difficult terrain. It also includes exposed recovery hooks, roof mounted accessories, and a tailgate mounted spare wheel.
Inside, the vehicle focuses on practicality and adventure use. The cabin includes a wide digital heads up display across the windshield and multiple small displays integrated into the dashboard. Hyundai has also retained physical switches and rotary controls for off road functions. The interior uses durable materials, grab handles, and modular storage designed for outdoor activities.
The company confirmed that the Boulder will be built on a new body on frame platform. According to Hyundai officials, this platform will support multiple future vehicles including SUVs and a midsize pickup truck. The production model is expected to compete with off road vehicles such as the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler.
Hyundai officials said the future production model will likely offer multiple powertrain options. These may include internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, plug in hybrid, electric, and range extending technologies.
The Boulder concept is expected to become part of a larger family of body on frame vehicles planned by Hyundai Motor Group before the end of the decade. More models based on this platform are expected to be introduced in the future.
