The Telangana government’s Maha Varuna Yagam, conducted seeking abundant rainfall across the state, concluded at Nagarjuna Sagar with traditional Vedic rituals. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his wife participated in the ceremony at Vijay Vihar on the banks of the Krishna River and offered the Purnahuti under the guidance of Vedic priests.
The ritual was conducted under the supervision of priests and Vedic scholars from the Yadadri Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. A total of 108 Ritwiks performed Vedic rituals around 11 homa kundas, seeking the blessings of Varuna Dev for adequate rainfall and improved water availability across Telangana.
CM Prays for Full Reservoirs and Water Resources
During the Varuna Yagam, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy prayed for plentiful rainfall in the Krishna and Godavari river basins. He expressed the hope that major reservoirs, including Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar, as well as other irrigation projects across the state, would receive sufficient inflows.
The Chief Minister also prayed for every tank and pond in Telangana to be filled with water, groundwater levels to improve and crops to grow abundantly. He wished for farmers to prosper and for people across the state to enjoy health, happiness and prosperity.
Government Highlights Cultural Tradition
The government said that performing yagams, yajnas and prayers for rainfall has been part of India’s spiritual and cultural traditions for generations. While continuing to rely on scientific assessments and planning, the government said it also respects traditions that reflect the close relationship between rainfall, agriculture, nature and human life.
Varuna Yagam Held Amid Rainfall Concerns
The government conducted the Maha Varuna Yagam amid concerns over rainfall conditions in the state. Government representatives referred to the possibility of below-normal rainfall and said the ritual was conducted with the intention of seeking favourable weather conditions and the well-being of farmers and the people.
Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and his wife also participated in the ritual. Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Konda Surekha, government advisers K. Keshava Rao and P. Sudarshan Reddy, former minister K. Jana Reddy and other public representatives attended the programme.
The government said the primary intention of the Varuna Yagam was to seek abundant rainfall, improved water availability and prosperity for the people of Telangana.
