Could Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy face a leadership challenge within the Congress? Political sources have raised questions over the future of the state government amid growing differences within the ruling party and fresh developments surrounding the Chief Minister’s foreign tour.
The speculation comes at a time when differences among sections of the Telangana Congress have become increasingly visible. Around 20 Congress MLAs on Friday demanded action against Forest Minister Konda Surekha and other leaders, alleging that remarks directed at Revanth Reddy and the Congress government were damaging the party’s image.
The internal disagreement follows a series of developments involving Konda Surekha’s daughter, Konda Sushmita, who publicly criticised the Chief Minister. The Congress disciplinary committee had earlier sought an explanation from Surekha over remarks made by her daughter, while Surekha has said she will give a detailed response after Revanth Reddy returns from his foreign tour.
Revanth Reddy’s proposed United States visit has also become a political talking point. The Centre did not grant political clearance for the US leg of his UK-US tour, and the Chief Minister is now expected to return to Hyderabad from London instead of travelling to the United States.
Against this backdrop, political sources are suggesting that internal dissatisfaction could eventually lead to discussions about the Congress leadership in Telangana, including the possibility of a change in the Chief Minister’s position. However, there is no official confirmation from the Congress high command that Revanth Reddy will be replaced.
The latest developments therefore raise an important political question: Is the Telangana Congress facing only an internal dispute, or could the differences develop into a larger leadership challenge? The answer will depend on the position taken by the Congress high command and the state’s legislators.
For now, the Revanth Reddy government remains in office, while the Congress leadership faces the task of managing growing differences within its Telangana unit. Any claim of an imminent change in Chief Ministership should be treated as speculation unless formally confirmed by the party.
