Born on August 18, 1959, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to Savitri and Narayanan Sitharaman, she hails from a Tamil Iyengar family. Her journey from being a salesperson in London to becoming a significant political leader in India is noteworthy.

Nirmala Sitharaman Political Journey :

Sitharaman’s political career began when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2008. She swiftly rose through the ranks and served as the party’s national spokesperson until 2014. Her dedication and commitment to the party earned her various significant positions, including Minister of State for Commerce and Industry (Independent Charge) and Finance and Corporate Affairs.

In September 2017, Sitharaman made history by becoming India’s Minister of Defence, making her the second woman to hold this position after the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Her tenure as Defence Minister was marked by notable initiatives and reforms aimed at strengthening India’s defense capabilities.

Sitharaman’s most prominent role came when she assumed office as India’s Finance Minister, becoming the first full-time woman to hold this position in India. Despite facing challenges, she exhibited resilience and played a crucial role in shaping India’s economic policies.

Early Life and Education:

Sitharaman’s academic journey is as impressive as her political career. She attended Sacred Heart Convent Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Villupuram for her primary education and later pursued higher studies at Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College, Tiruchirappalli. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
