Born on August 18, 1959, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to Savitri and Narayanan Sitharaman, she hails from a Tamil Iyengar family. Sitharaman’s political career began when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2008. She swiftly rose through the ranks and served as the party’s national spokesperson until 2014. She worked as a salesperson at Habitat, a renowned home decor store in London, and later as an Assistant Economist at the Association of Agricultural Engineers in the UK. Her stint in London also included senior managerial roles at PwC and brief employment at the BBC World Service.
Sitharaman’s commitment to societal welfare is evident from her involvement as a member of the National Commission for Women. Additionally, she co-founded Pranav, an initiative in Hyderabad, in 2017, showcasing her dedication to social causes beyond her political responsibilities.
