Bengaluru.21.09.2024: In response to allegations regarding the use of animal fat in the preparation of Tirupati temple laddus, Karnataka Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that all prasada offered at major temples in the state will undergo testing. Additionally, only Nandini ghee, supplied by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), will be used in preparing the prasada.
This announcement follows Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s claim that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the making of the laddus at Tirumala’s Sri Venkateswara Temple during the previous YSRCP government.
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy dismissed the allegations, accusing the TDP of “politicising religious matters.” He added that the tender process for ingredients has remained unchanged for decades, with strict quality checks in place.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda has also requested a detailed report from CM Naidu on the issue and promised that the Centre would take appropriate action following an investigation based on food safety standards.
