Hyderabad, February,26,2026 : Telangana Chief Minister and Education Minister A. Revanth Reddy on February 26, 2026, directed officials to frame rules to cancel permits of private schools found collecting fees beyond prescribed norms.

The directions were issued during a review meeting on education held in Hyderabad.

Chairing the meeting, Mr. Reddy instructed officials to include clear provisions that would allow the government to cancel permissions granted to private schools if they are found charging fees above approved limits. He also said that any excess amount collected should be recovered.

The Chief Minister asked the Education Department to create an online option where parents and the public can submit suggestions and feedback on regulating private school fees. The portal is expected to allow citizens to share concerns and recommendations related to fee structures.

Parents across Telangana have been raising complaints over steep and unregulated fee hikes by private schools. Several parent groups have urged the State government to intervene and provide relief from rising education costs.

Officials present at the meeting were directed to review existing regulations and ensure that enforcement mechanisms are clearly defined. The government is examining options to strengthen oversight and ensure compliance by private educational institutions.

According to officials, the move is part of a broader effort to bring transparency and accountability to the private education sector. The Chief Minister stressed that regulations should protect parents while ensuring that schools follow approved norms.

Last month, the Telangana Education Commission proposed a bill to regulate fees in the private education sector, including schools and colleges. The commission also recommended the creation of a separate statutory body for fee regulation.

Earlier this week, the Telangana Education Policy was submitted to the Chief Minister. The policy outlines steps aimed at improving governance and regulation in the education sector.

In March 2025, Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha told the Assembly that the government would appoint a fee regulatory committee to monitor private school fees. The latest directions follow those earlier assurances.

Officials said further consultations would be held before finalising the rules. Once notified, the regulations are expected to be implemented across the State.
