Peddapalli,March,21,2026: Peddapalli maize crop damage has caused heavy losses to farmers after unseasonal rain and hailstorm hit the district on Thursday evening. Former MLA Dasari Manohar Reddy visited affected villages on Saturday and demanded immediate compensation for farmers.
Unseasonal rains accompanied by hailstorms caused severe damage to maize crops in several villages of Kalva Srirampur mandal in Peddapalli district. The crops were at the milk stage and were completely flattened due to the heavy hailstorm, resulting in major losses to farmers.
Former MLA Dasari Manohar Reddy visited the affected villages including Vennampalli, Koonaram, Madipalli, Pegadapalli, Gangaram, Pandilla, Mangapet and Jafarkhanpet. He inspected the damaged maize fields and expressed concern over the losses suffered by farmers.
According to local estimates, around 35 acres belonging to 25 farmers were damaged in Mangapet, while 110 acres belonging to 72 farmers were damaged in Koonaram village. Overall, maize crops in nearly 400 acres in Kalva Srirampur mandal were severely affected.
Speaking during the visit, Manohar Reddy said the crops were destroyed just when they were nearing harvest stage, leaving farmers in distress. He demanded that the government immediately conduct a detailed survey through officials and provide compensation.
He demanded that the government pay compensation of Rs 40000 per acre to every farmer who lost maize crops due to the hailstorm.
Local leaders and public representatives including Sarpanch Manthani Rajayya, former MPP Nuneti Sampath, former MPTC Jetty Devender and BRS leaders and workers participated in the visit.
The farmers are now waiting for the government to respond and announce compensation after the crop damage survey is completed.
