Hyderabad,30,May,2026: DK Shivakumar has been elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Karnataka following the resignation of Siddaramaiah. The decision was taken during a Congress Legislature Party meeting held at Vidhana Soudha on Saturday.
The election of DK Shivakumar as the party’s legislative leader paves the way for him to become the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. The decision was approved unanimously by Congress legislators during the meeting.
The resolution to elect Mr. Shivakumar was moved by Siddaramaiah and Dr. G. Parameshwar. Party legislators adopted the resolution during the meeting.
A press release issued by Mr. Shivakumar’s office confirmed that Congress legislators had chosen him as their leader and the next Chief Minister of the state.
After the resolution was adopted, the decision was officially communicated to all Congress legislators by AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal.
Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru, Mr. Venugopal said that DK Shivakumar had been elected unanimously by the party legislators. He added that Mr. Shivakumar would meet the Governor to stake a claim to form the government.
The Congress Legislature Party meeting was convened after Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation. Legislators gathered at Vidhana Soudha to elect a new leader for the party in the state legislature.
According to the announcement made after the meeting, the swearing-in ceremony for DK Shivakumar as Chief Minister will be held on June 3.
Mr. Shivakumar is expected to visit the Governor in the coming days to formally stake claim to form the government before taking oath as Chief Minister.
