Khammam, February,26,2026: Velugumatla hut demolitions became a political issue again after Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy addressed the media on the issue in Khammam district, stating that justice would be done to poor families affected by the demolition of their houses.
Speaking at a media conference, the minister said that huts belonging to poor families were demolished in Velugumatla on July 15, 2023, during the previous BRS government. He stated that this fact was on record and should not be ignored.
The minister alleged that the same leaders who were involved in demolitions earlier were now claiming concern for the poor. He said these leaders were engaging in propaganda while continuing actions that harmed poor families.
Referring to the present government, the minister said it came to power with the support and blessings of poor people. He stated clearly that the government would not trouble any genuine poor person under any circumstances.
Addressing the situation in Velugumatla village of Khammam district, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government was committed to ensuring fairness for all affected families. He said steps would be taken to identify deserving poor people who lost their homes.
The minister stated that, as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, eligible families would be provided with house plots and houses. He said the government would ensure that benefits reached only those who genuinely deserved them.
He added that officials had been directed to act responsibly and ensure that no injustice was done during the process. The minister said the administration would closely monitor the situation to prevent further hardship to poor residents.
According to Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, the government’s focus was on protecting the interests of poor families and restoring their dignity by providing permanent housing solutions.
The Velugumatla hut demolitions issue has drawn attention locally, with residents awaiting clarity on rehabilitation measures and timelines. The minister assured that necessary action would be taken without delay.
He concluded by reiterating that the government stood firmly with the poor and that justice would be delivered in Velugumatla as promised.
