Hyderabad, March 10,2026 : The Congress party has moved a No Confidence Motion Against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the Lok Sabha. Congress MP Mohammad Javed introduced the motion in the House on Tuesday.

Following the introduction of the motion, discussions began in the Lok Sabha. The House has allocated ten hours for the debate before voting on the motion.

Opposition parties requested that a special presiding officer be appointed to conduct the proceedings during the debate on the motion. The central government accepted the request.

Senior Member of Parliament and panel chairperson member Jagdambika Pal was appointed to preside over the proceedings. Under his leadership, the discussion on the motion is currently continuing in the Lok Sabha.

The opposition said the motion was brought after several issues raised during the discussion on the motion of thanks to the President’s address. According to the opposition, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was not given an opportunity to speak during the debate.

The opposition also pointed out that eight members were suspended from the House. At the same time, they alleged that no action was taken against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey over remarks made against Congress women MPs.

Due to these developments, opposition parties decided to introduce the motion against the Speaker. Reports indicate that signatures of 118 Members of Parliament were collected in support of the motion.

After the discussion concludes, the Lok Sabha will hold a vote on the motion. For the motion to be passed, it requires a simple majority of 272 votes in the House.

Currently, the BJP led National Democratic Alliance holds a strength of 293 members in the Lok Sabha. The opposition bloc has around 238 members.

Given the current numbers in the House, the opposition parties are unlikely to secure the required majority for the motion to pass.
